Prescribing Information
Limbrel is intended for the clinical dietary management of the metabolic processes of osteoarthritis.
For the clinical dietary management of the metabolic processes of OA, prescribe either one 250 mg or one 500 mg capsule every 12 hours. The use may be increased to two or more capsules every 12 hours, as directed by a physician. LIMBREL is safe taken with or without other foods. If patients forget to take the prescribed amount, take it as soon as they remember and then resume the normal schedule as directed by a physician.
Many clinicians have reported better patient responses to 500 mg per administration (1,000 mg/day) for the first week following discontinuance of NSAID or COX-2 selective prescription products.
Expected Onset of Action
Limbrel's onset of action varies according to the severity of osteoarthritis. In clinical practice, physicians find that patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis feel an onset of action in as little time as several hours to 4-5 days after taking Limbrel. Moderate to severe osteoarthritis patients may feel the onset of action in 5-10 days.
With or Without Other Foods
Limbrel is safe when taken with or without other foods. Taking Limbrel one hour before or after meals helps to increase the absorption of Limbrel's key ingredients into the blood by 10-15% (data on file). This observation is based upon a pharmacokinetic study in humans, as well as in-market clinical experience in analyzing physician and patient product reports. However, if your patients experience any indigestion, then it is recommended that they take Limbrel with food.
Precautions and Contraindications
Limbrel is contraindicated in an extremely small number of patients, those with hypersensitivity to any component of flavocoxid or to flavonoids. Foods rich in flavonoid contents include: colored fruits and vegetables, dark chocolate, tea (especially green tea), red wine, and Brazil nuts.
Limbrel is expected to be safe on the stomach because of its mechanism of action and the down-regulation of leukotriene production (particularly LTB4), which are known to cause ulcers to develop and expand by attracting WBCs to the stomach mucosa. Clinical practice has shown that Limbrel is well-tolerated in patients with a history of mild ulceration.
Since there are no formal studies among patients under the age of 18, as a precaution, Limbrel is not recommended for patients under 18 years of age.
Since there are no formal studies among pregnant or lactating patients, as a precaution, Limbrel is not recommended for pregnant or lactating patients.
